Fairlawn’s executive leadership team has over 100 years of combined experience doing what we do best—real estate investing, property management, development, construction, accounting, finance, human resources, and law. In total, we employ over 80 full-time professionals dedicated to ensuring the continued success of each of our properties from the ground up.
In particular, Fairlawn Capital's Investments Team scrutinizes each potential opportunity with respect to underwriting, risk management, physical due diligence, marketing, and operations—meaning our entire team is consistently well-prepared for the challenges of long-term property ownership.
Chris is the President and Co-Founder of Fairlawn Capital and Fairlawn Real Estate. Chris' focus involves running the daily operations of the Fairlawn platform, as well as developing and executing on the firm’s investment strategies.
He has been an active real estate developer since 2002, having acquired, developed and managed over $250 million of multi-family, office and real estate throughout the Midwest. He also serves as the managing broker of Fairlawn Real Estate and is an active member of the Young Presidents Organization.
Prior to founding Fairlawn Real Estate and Fairlawn Capital, Chris was a managing partner for 15 years at JSM Real Estate—a family-owned company in Champaign-Urbana. Chris began his career at Accenture Consulting in Chicago building financial IT systems for various clients around the globe. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University.
Will is the Vice President of Fairlawn Capital and primarily focuses on project underwriting, deal execution, asset management, and firm strategy. He is responsible for the selection, evaluation, and acquisition of new Fairlawn projects, and oversees the firm's asset management processes to ensure maximum portfolio performance.
Prior to co-founding Fairlawn Capital, Will practiced law for a large Baltimore, Maryland firm in the areas of real estate development, financing, and leasing. He also has experience working in accounting, finance and marketing strategy for multiple entrepreneurial ventures.
Will received a Juris Doctorate from the University of Maryland School of Law, where he was an Associate Editor of the Maryland Law Review. He also received an MBA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a bachelor’s degree from Villanova University School of Business.
Jason is General Counsel at Fairlawn Capital and is primarily focused on handling legal matters for the firm and sourcing equity capital for new projects. Jason also helps to develop overall firm strategy and is instrumental in the deal execution phase of Fairlawn's investment process. Outside of Fairlawn, Jason is a Partner at the Champaign-based law firm Meyer Capel, PC where he concentrates on commercial real estate transactions, outside general counsel services and other business matters. Jason also serves in the Illinois State Senate, representing the 53rd Legislative District.
He earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Illinois College of Law and a bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University. Prior to law school, Jason served in the Illinois Army National Guard as an infantry soldier and was employed by Ernst & Young, LLP.
Gozen is Chief Operating Officer and Co-founder of Fairlawn Real Estate. Gozen’s focus areas include owning all aspects of Fairlawn Real Estate’s property management, leasing, maintenance, and people operations. As Co-founder, Gozen has been integral in taking the company from fewer than 10 employees and 400 units in 2015 to 80+ employees and 3600+ units today. Gozen’s ultimate objectives are to ensure that the company’s successful management formula and culture are effectively deployed across all locations and properties.
Prior to co-founding Fairlawn Real Estate, Gozen worked in strategy consulting at McKinsey & Company. She worked primarily within the air and travel industries, with concentrations in pricing and operations. During her 12 years at McKinsey, she also spent several years managing a global team of industry experts across all travel and logistics industries.
Gozen earned her Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and her Master of Science in Transportation Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.
Brenda Timmons joined Fairlawn Real Estate in September 2018. She oversees all aspects of the company’s finances, including development and management of budgets, preparation of financial statements, cash management, and accounting operations. Brenda brings nearly three decades of financial and accounting management experience in both private and public sectors, with a focus on real estate.
Before joining Fairlawn, Brenda worked at The Atkins Group, a local real estate development company, where she was the chief financial officer since 2002. Brenda also gained valuable experience working at RSM US, LLC, a public accounting firm, in areas of audit, tax and consulting.
Brenda holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Illinois State University and is a licensed Certified Public Accountant.
Maggie is the Director of Property Management for Fairlawn Real Estate. She is responsible for overseeing all property management activities related to Fairlawn’s diverse portfolio. As Fairlawn continues to grow, Maggie is primarily focused on developing and cultivating strong management teams and processes at the property level. Additionally, she oversees regional operations, collaborates on front-end project planning and design, and assists in strategic planning across the portfolio.
Prior to joining Fairlawn, Maggie was Director of Marketing & Public Relations for Regency Apartments and managed leasing & marketing for multiple student housing properties at The Scion Group. Maggie also previously served as a sergeant in the Illinois National Guard where she specialized in transportation and tactical operations.
Maggie earned a Bachelor of Science in Media Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
BJ is the Project Manager for Fairlawn Real Estate and is primarily focused on project estimating, execution, management, and oversight. He is also responsible for conducting due diligence inspections, capital budgeting, scope of work preparation, contractor negotiations, quality control, and risk management.
He is experienced in managing renovations, fit-out construction, and ground-up development in both commercial and multi-family real estate. He provides day-to-day communication with the project team to ensure Fairlawn's projects remain on schedule and within budget.
Prior to joining Fairlawn Real Estate, BJ spent 10 years in the insurance industry as a structural and real property adjuster where he investigated, analyzed, and estimated property loss/damages and negotiated claim settlements. BJ earned a bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.
Jennifer joined Fairlawn Real Estate in July 2018. She brings over 10 years of experience in the field of Human Resources across a variety of industries. As the HR Manager for Fairlawn, Jennifer focuses on translating strategic and tactical business goals into HR operational plans. Jennifer also focuses on leading recruitment, retention and maintaining the company’s culture as Fairlawn ramps up for anticipated growth.
She is experienced in compliance and best practices, HR administration, talent management, employee engagement, employee relations, recruiting, compensation & benefits. Jennifer supports all activities to achieve an engaged, talented, and progressive workforce.
Prior to joining Fairlawn Real Estate, Jennifer served on the leadership team for a healthcare IT company in Chicago, IL. Jennifer earned her bachelor’s degree in Human Resources from Trinity International University.
Austin is the Investment Analyst of Fairlawn Capital and focuses on project underwriting and asset management. He is responsible for competitive market analysis and initial financial modeling of all new Fairlawn acquisitions. Additionally, he participates in on-going property performance oversight and quarterly asset management reporting.
Prior to joining Fairlawn Capital, Austin interned at State Farm within the Real Estate and Mortgages Investment Group. While there he helped underwrite and vet potential commercial mortgages and performed surveillance on over $1 billion in commercial mortgages.
Austin received a B.S in Finance from the Gies College of Business where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. While at the University of Illinois, he served on the board of Rho Epsilon, a student organization focused on real estate.
